What's new in AVCataloger 3.7


AVCataloger 3.7 brings a fresh new look, as shown above.  Now supporting "Menu Styles" from the Tools...Preference menu area, users can select various schemes such as Office 2000, Office XP, Office 2003, or Visual Studio 2005 styles.  The latter two provide the new collapsible navigation bar (left of user-interface) which can be collapsed by clicking the horizontal bar just above "Library" and lowered to expand the contents.  Smaller icons will appear at the bottom which can be clicked to change the navigation bar areas in view.

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) area was significantly updated to conform to changes at the IMDb web site.  AVCataloger queries the IMDb web site and parses the data to fill in the desired fields within AVCataloger.  When IMDb makes a significant change, this ripples down to AVCataloger and requires an update to the internal parsing engine.  AVCataloger 3.7 tidies up these parsing routines and also improves the search system for more reliable results. 

AVCataloger 3.7 also improves areas such as the Book query search by ISBN and export to Access routines, based on valuable customer feedback.  We invite any and all feedback as this is what makes AVCataloger better for all.

New NC Software Update System

At NC Software, we believe in taking information TO the customer, not requiring our valuable customers to frequent our web site to see what's new.  The most important news we can bring to a user of our software is when a new version becomes available.  Software sometimes has "features" that need a little tweaking, and we are not immune to this.  We also enjoy adding exciting new functionality such as the new themes shown above with the Office 2003 menu style selected. 

NC Software completely overhauled its automated update system removing the previously used, and unfortunately unreliable, InstallShield Update Service.  AVCataloger will check, from time to time, for updates directly with NC Software's servers (no personal information is transmitted).  When AVCataloger receives a note that a newer version is available, you will be advised if this update is deemed critical.  Otherwise, update checking is accomplished from the Online menu area...check web for updates.  If an update is available you will be presented an option to download the update and save to any location on your computer.  At your leisure, double-click the downloaded file to update your AVCataloger software.

We hope you enjoy the new fully integrated update system.  It's very easy, straight-forward, and reliable.  The former InstallShield Update System and Update Manager will be removed automatically when updating to AVCataloger 3.7.
