Default 3.8.1 yields 1628 Failed to Complete Installation Error

Any ideas how to get around this?

I've tried several times and even rebooted. Each time it comes up with the 1628: Failed to Complete Installation error.

Help!

I'm beside myself on this. I've tried the suggestions on the linked page (and it doesn't list Windows XP for the MSI installer because it is already included. I install things that leverage MSI all the time and never have a problem except with AVCataloger. I tried doing an uninstall thinking I'd just install from scratch. It won't even let me uninstall AVCataloger.

Any suggestions? The message I always get is the 1628 Error.

Note: I do not have either 3.8.1 or 3.8.2 updates because of this issue.

Hello,

I suggest googling the install error you are receiving as it is something with your Windows setup and not with AVCataloger. You may also want to google "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" download it, install it, and forcibly remove AVCataloger and then install AVCataloger 3.8. If you're using Windows Vista make sure User Account Control (UAC) is disabled, reboot, and then install.

OK. I finally got it updated. Windows Install Cleanup didn't help though, because it did not list AVCataloger, even though it showed on the Add/Remove Programs list. I ended up having to search through the registry manually (which I prefer not to do) and remove the AVCataloger installer entries. Then I was able to use the 3.8 install from the web. I still received one error message with the install of 3.8.2, but it did still complete successfully.

I'm not sure what broke the AVCataloger registry items, but removing them apparently was what was actually needed.

Best Regards.
