I had an interesting issue today with the app regarding sync. It was initiated by my mistake, but this is something that surely can't be overlooked as people DO make mistakes. Maybe it's too complicated to try to "fix" and we'll just have to be cautious of it, but i wanted to mention it anyway.

I had entered 2 flights in the app and they had been synced automatically to the server but i had not retrieved them to my PC yet. I started up LBP on my PC this morning and it synced them nicely. however, i then noticed that i had entered the wrong aircraft type for both of those flights. all other flight info was correct. i went back to the app to make the change of the aircraft type and all other flight info remained the same. i re-synced and lbp imported duplicate flights (this time with a different aircraft type).

so now i have 4 flights instead of 2. i know that the issue here is that i had already synced those flights to the pc and then "edited them" to include a different aircraft type. i made another test entry by changing the route slightly and re-syncing and it also imports a duplicate flight for that.

again, my mistake because i didn't realize the mistake until after sync to the PC, however i think there should be some kind of way for the app and the PC edition to be able to determine if there was simply a change to a flight entry, or a whole new entry made.

NC Software is proud to announce the release of Logbook Pro for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad version 1.0.4. This is a significant release and all users are highly encouraged to update via the Apple App Store at your earliest opportunity.

Revisions in this release:

ADDED: Pending Flight checkbox at the bottom of the flight log screen. When checked this will tell Logbook Pro it is an incomplete flight therefore do not validate it for required fields and do not synchronize it. Pending flights can be used for logging a flight as it is being flown or preloading future flights such as an upcoming trip.

ADDED: Use GMT ON/OFF switch now in the Settings/Flight Log Settings area. When set to ON the Flight Log date/time selectors will present times in GMT/UTC/ZULU. This allows pilots transitioning timezones to use a single timezone for OOOI times allowing the duration calc system to be used

ADDED: Ability to hide additional fields in the logbook layout. Day Landings, Night Landings, and Simulator fields can now be hidden in the Settings/Flight Log Settings area enabling pilots to only show the input fields that pertain to their type of flying.

ADDED: Better feedback when synchronizing is occuring. A small blue rectangle will appear in the center of the screen with a white spinning wheel when you tap "Sync" on the Home Screen. Sync occurs typically less than a second but this feedback has been overwhelmingly requested so you know it occurs.

ADDED: Error detection has been added throughout the entire application. Instead of an error occuring and the app just crashing out from the error, the error message will be displayed to you which most likely will heal itself at next save. This should dramatically improve stability of the apps alone.

ADDED: All images/icons now support the iPhone 4 Retina display

ADDED: When submitting a bug report or feature request additional information such as the device type and version is now included so we can better assist you on the first reply

ADDED: Disable the ability to add new flights if no A/C Types exists, i.e. a new user hasn't added them to Logbook Pro PC edition yet

ADDED: Checks to ensure History events have a "period" defined prior to allowing History events to be created

FIXED: When using iOS 4, the timezone is captured when the application is first launched. As iOS 4 suspends the app between uses the timezone is never updated when you put it into airplane mode and turn the device back on in a new timezone and the cellular network updates your timezone automatically.

FIXED: Issues with slower/older generation devices such as iPod touch would cause a crash on startup as the time to load data and perform the sync was taking too long and the OS would shut down the app.

This release is a huge improvement of our iPhone and iPad apps and should demonstrate a very stable platform from this point forward. We've made significant progress with the new Apple operation system (iOS 4) and we are working on new features for future updates. For those that were advised to turn OFF Sync on Start you may now turn it back ON after installing 1.0.4 as the slow startup issues causing the app to crash is now resolved.

The My Sync portal has also been updated and requires all apps synchronizing to use version 1.0.2 or later. In early August we will be raising this minimum value to 1.0.4 to further implement new functionality we've been working on. Be sure to update your Apps immediately via the App Store.

We hope you enjoy your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps.

Hi There,
In the aircraft set up options I have changed the power characteristics to add single turbine helicopter
and twin turbine helicopter.
If I generate a standard summary report by power characteristics (in fact any of the standard reports), the breakdown is correctly displayed.
However if I try and produce a custom flight log, and edit any of the columns under the Aircraft Category and Class section to include single turbine and twin turbine helicopter (rather than just rotorcraft, or turbine helicopter) neither of these options are available in either the Category, Class, Classification or Power sections of the drop down box for the data field.
Logbook Pro obviously has the distinction somewhere in it's code because it produces the headings on the summary reports, but is there any way I can get a full flight log to show the data this way.
To Clarify - Under the "Aircraft Category and Class" Header of the flight log, I want to have the following columns populated:
Piston Aircraft, Turbojet Aircraft, single Turbine Helicopter, Twin Turbine Helicopter
Thanks
Jay

Logbook Pro for Windows version 1.10.53 is now available. This is a FREE update for all version 1.x customers. Please follow the instructions below carefully to update your software. This update is deemed NON-CRITICAL - please update at your next opportunity.

Upgrade Instructions:

BACKUP your Logbook Pro data file (File..Backup or File..Archive..Backup) and note the location of your .BAK file created in the event you have to restore at a future date.

Click Help...About Logbook Pro and note the location of your data file which is the file ending in .LBK. The location is noted on the bottom of the About dialog. *** If your data file resides in C:\Program Files\... you MUST click File...Move Logbook To and move your logbook file to /My Documents/My Logbook Pro Files/v1 ***

If you have Logbook Pro running click Windows..Close All to close any open data area windows.

Click Online..Check for Updates if you're using version 1.10.43 or later and the software updater will guide you from this point

For any version prior to version 1.10.43 or if you do not wish to use the software updater within Logbook Pro, close Logbook Pro and uninstall it from the Windows Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs area (or Programs & Features in Vista/7). Uninstalling does NOT affect your data or registrations (activations). After the uninstall is complete click here to download the installer and install the new version, Logbook Pro will open your prior data file upon next run.

Revisions in this Release:

A new database structure now allows Professional Edition "Clones" to sync with any of our Logbook Pro PDA Companion product (Palm/Pocket PC/iPhone/iPad). There is no longer a restriction where clones will not sync with PDA Companion products after 1.10.53 is installed.

If updating the My Sync portal from Logbook Pro PC edition fails a message prompt will notify you of the failure. Most likely the account credentials (Account ID / E-Mail) are incorrect.

Updating the My Sync portal without having configured any aircraft types in the Options/Aircraft area, i.e. brand new users, uploading will be aborted as aircraft types (at least one) is required for use of the iPhone/iPad apps

Default layout in the spreadsheet style log, LEGS column now falls to the right of the Route column

The title bar of the application will now show the path to the data file being used instead of just the filename. It appears users are not aware of the location of their data file so putting this information in the title bar will help make users aware of the location of their important data file

Options/History requires the Period to be specified. Previously it could be left blank.

Options/User Info has a new checkbox at the bottom "Provide feedback with sound". The default is CHECKED. When unchecked all sounds within the application will be bypassed.

For any questions regarding this free update please contact us at any time via the help desk.

I recently broke my windows phone. I bought a Droid phone to replace it. LB Pro/APDL is not supported on the Droid. Therefore, I have not been logging my flight time like I usually do after every flight. So, can I take the flight time information posted into FLiCA by the company after I complete a flight and copy/paste it directly to Logbook Pro? I realize that information such as IMC, Approaches, Night time ect is not downloaded by the company into flica but actual flight time is.

Hello Neal,

First, I must say, great job with Logbook Pro for iPhone! I've been a Logbook Pro user for many years, and have been eagerly anticipating this addition for a while. The sync to/from the 'cloud' is pure genius.

However, since the update to v1.0.2 with multi-tasking support (and continuing on the latest release, v1.0.3), I've experienced multiple crashes and other strange behaviours. I've yet to be able to pinpoint the exact circumstances that lead to this situation, but as far as I can tell it seems to correspond with the transition from airplane mode ON to OFF. Several things have happened in this case, on several occasions:

(1) After entering a flight on the 'Flights' page and returning to the 'Home' screen to sync by pressing the back arrow, the app freezes. In some instances, a few minutes later it will subsequently unfreeze, but then incorrectly show the contents of the 'Flights' page on the 'Home' screen (I can tell it is the home screen because the 'Sync' button shows on the top left instead of the 'Home' back arrow - see 'photo_4.PNG' attached). In other instances, it will show the contents of the 'Home' screen on the 'Flights' page ('photo_3.PNG'). The only way to then fix this situation is to completely close the app from the multi-tasking tray and then relaunch the app. Sometimes the last flight entered will still be there (if it got the sync in before crashing), but other times not.

(2) Sometimes, when entering an in/out time, the time shown in the in/out field after being edited is shifted by several hours from what was actually set on the selector wheel; i.e. 21:20 selected, 19:20 displayed. 'photo_2.PNG' attached shows the result of entering a time of 21:20 ('photo_1/PNG'). My best guess at this one is that it has something to do with a change in time zone from the time airplane mode was turned on to the time is was turned off, as it only seems to happen after crossing multiple time zones, and the difference between the selected/displayed values seems to correspond with the time change. The example above occured at the end of a flight from Calgary, AB to Ottawa, ON - exactly 2 hours apart. Again, the only way to fix this problem is to completely exit the app and then relaunch.

On another note (not so much a bug report but a question/suggestion): since the addition of multi-tasking, the 'Sync on Start' and 'Sync on Exit' options no longer have any effect, as the app never really starts or exits. This means that the automatic syncing function doesn't work, and a manual sync must be initiated from the home screen (which has proven a slight problem due to the crashes reported above). Is there a way that you could initiate a sync any time Logbook Pro becomes the active app, and then again when closing to the background (in essence achieving what you were originally intending before the advent of multi-tasking)? Or maybe upon clicking 'Save' from the add flight screen? Or am I missing something as to how the current setup is supposed to behave?

Please let me know if you need any further information from me. Hopefully you will find a fix for these issues soon, as it is proving to be a bit difficult to use the app as it is right now. The thought of being able to enter flight details in Logbook Pro while multi-tasking is wonderful!

Cheers,
